UNFCCC COP17 Side Event on Friday, Dec. 2, 13:15-14:45 hrs Room Levube River, Durban Exhibition Center (DEC)

On Friday, Dec. 2, media are invited to attend an official UNFCCC side-event to showcase successful green-growth interventions in forestry and agriculture -- from bamboo charcoal as an alternative source of energy to business opportunities for sustainable construction materials -- created by emerging and developing economies, particularly in Africa and Asia. Panelists will highlight the policies and investments needed in Africa and globally to accelerate green growth and south-south collaboration.

Key speakers include:

  • Patrick Verkooeijen, Head of the Agriculture and Climate Change Team, World Bank
  • Karanja M. Njoroge, Executive Director, Green Belt Movement, Kenya
  • Rodney Cooke, Director, Policy and Technical Advisory Division, International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)
